Why DuraMax BP

Built for a vehicle. Backed by a manufacturer.

Every 1-car garage on this page ships with the structural systems and dealer support that make the difference between a kit that holds up for 15 years and one that lasts five.

1

Foundation Kit Included

Every model ships with the integrated steel-anchored foundation framework. No separate purchase, no dimensional guesswork. Concrete slab is poured to local code, the kit anchors to it.

2

Engineered for Real Weather

Reinforced galvanized steel framework, wind and snow load tested. UV-stabilized vinyl panels on the vinyl line, or powder-coated galvanized steel on the Imperial metal line. Built to live outside for decades.

FAQ

Common questions about 1-car garages.

Permits, foundations, install times, vinyl vs metal. Tap any question to expand the answer.

What is the difference between vinyl and metal garages?

Vinyl garages use UV-stabilized vinyl panels over a reinforced steel framework. They will not rot, rust, dent, peel or need repainting, and carry a 15-year manufacturer warranty. Metal Imperial garages are all-steel with a powder-coat finish. They are wider (12 ft vs 10.5 ft) for heavy trucks or workshop use, and carry a 10-year warranty. Both lines are engineered for similar wind and snow loads.

Do I need a building permit for a 1-car garage?

Most jurisdictions require permits for any garage. Requirements vary by city, county, and HOA. Check with your local building department before ordering. Permitting is the customer's responsibility per our policy. DuraMax garages are engineered to meet typical residential codes. Share the product specs with your local inspector when applying for the permit.

What foundation do I need?

A level concrete slab is recommended for any 1-car garage. The included foundation kit provides the structural anchoring framework, but the slab beneath must be poured before assembly. Slab thickness depends on local code, typically 4 inches with rebar. The vinyl line can also be installed on a pressure-treated wood platform with appropriate anchoring, though concrete is the longest-lasting option.

How long does installation take?

2-4 days for two people with basic tools, depending on the size. The 15.5 ft vinyl models can be done in a long weekend. The 30.5 ft vinyl and 12x26 metal Imperial are closer to a 4-day project. Many customers hire a local handyman or contractor for installation. Typical cost: $800 to $2,500 depending on size and your region. Installation manuals are available on our manuals page.

Can I park a pickup truck in it?

Yes, for most standard pickups. The vinyl line's 10.5 ft drive-in width accommodates full-size F-150, Silverado, and Ram 1500 class trucks with about 2 ft on each side. For larger trucks (heavy duty, dually) or if you want extra room to open doors and walk around the vehicle, the 12 ft Imperial metal line gives you the additional space.

Does the kit include windows?

All vinyl garage models include the windows shown in the product listing (typically in the side walls). The Imperial metal line generally does not include windows by default. Check each product page for the exact configuration before ordering. Window positions are fixed by the manufacturer; we cannot customize placements.

What is covered under warranty?

DuraMax vinyl garages carry a 15-year limited manufacturer warranty covering vinyl panels, structural framing, doors, and included hardware. Metal Imperial garages carry a 10-year limited warranty on the steel construction and powder-coat finish. Both warranties are non-transferable. Full coverage details and exclusions on our warranty page.

About DuraMax 1-Car Garages

DuraMax 1-car garage kits give you a permanent, weather-tight outbuilding without the cost or timeline of stick-built construction. As an authorized DuraMax dealer since 2011, DuraMax BP carries the complete 1-car garage lineup factory-direct from DuraMax's US warehouses. Eleven total models across the vinyl and metal Imperial lines, with free freight shipping (and free lift-gate service) to all 48 contiguous states.

The vinyl line is the more popular choice for residential buyers. Seven models share a uniform 10.5 ft drive-in width and step up in 2.5 to 3 ft length increments: 15.5 ft, 18 ft, 20.5 ft, 23 ft, 25.5 ft, 28 ft, and 30.5 ft. Each one ships with an integrated steel-anchored foundation kit, a full vinyl panel system over a reinforced galvanized steel framework, double doors with secure latching, and clear windows in the side walls. The vinyl resin is UV-stabilized so it will not fade, rot, peel, or need repainting, and the line carries DuraMax's 15-year manufacturer warranty.

The Imperial metal line gives you a wider footprint when you need it. Both available sizes (12x20 and 12x26) come in two color combinations: dark gray with white trim, or light gray with off-white trim. At 12 ft wide, the Imperial is the right pick if you are parking a heavy-duty truck, want walking clearance on both sides of a vehicle, or plan to use the building primarily as a workshop. The all-steel construction carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

For most homeowners, a 20.5 to 25.5 ft long vinyl model is the sweet spot. Full clearance for a sedan, SUV, or standard pickup, plus room along the back wall for a workbench, tool storage, and shelving. If you only need to garage a motorcycle, ATV, or compact vehicle and want shelving on multiple walls, the 15.5 ft and 18 ft models are right-sized. If you are combining vehicle storage with a serious workshop, drop into the 28 ft or 30.5 ft vinyl, or the 12x26 metal Imperial.

All DuraMax garages are designed for installation on a level concrete slab (most common), pressure-treated wood platform, or other appropriately anchored foundation. Slabs should be poured to local code thickness (typically 4 inches with rebar) before assembly begins. Plan for 2-4 days of installation time with two people, or hire a local handyman or contractor.

Most buyers do not realize that a 1-car garage typically requires a permit in their jurisdiction. Permitting timelines vary widely (1-6 weeks), so start the permit conversation with your local building department before placing your order. HOA approval, if applicable, should also be confirmed in advance. See our permits policy for details on what is the customer's responsibility.
