FAQ

Questions about 8x8 sheds.

Duramate or DuraPlus?

Pick DuraPlus if you live in a high-wind, heavy-snow, or coastal region - the reinforced construction matters there. Pick Duramate if you are in a mild climate and want the standard square shed at the lower price point. Both have the same vinyl panel quality and warranty.

What fits in an 8x8?

Riding mower with attachments plus workbench, push mower + blower + trimmer + 4-5 bikes, motorcycle plus full workshop setup, or a finished interior workshop with shelving and tool storage along three walls. 64 sq ft is where workshop use becomes practical.

Can I convert it to a she shed or office?

Yes - 64 sq ft is the smallest practical size for finished she shed conversion. After install you can DIY add insulation, drywall, electrical, and interior finishing. Note that the standard vinyl shed is not insulated; budget around $1,500-$3,000 for a quality finished conversion.

Do I need a permit?

Usually not. At 64 sq ft, the 8x8 falls under typical 120 sq ft no-permit thresholds in most municipalities. Confirm with your local building department and HOA.

What foundation works?

A 4-inch concrete slab with rebar is the longest-lasting and recommended option. A pressure-treated wood platform over compacted gravel also works.

How long does install take?

5-7 hours for two people. Most buyers DIY in a weekend. Installation manuals on our manuals page.

What is the warranty?

DuraMax's 15-year limited manufacturer warranty on both models. Full details on our warranty page.

About DuraMax 8x8 Sheds

The DuraMax 8x8 is the standard square vinyl shed in the line. 64 sq ft of floor space - genuinely useful capacity for a typical residential yard. We carry two model options at this footprint.

The Duramate 8x8 (SKU 00384) is the classic vinyl shed at the 8x8 footprint. UV-stabilized vinyl resin panels over a galvanized steel framework, integrated foundation kit, single front double door. No side window in the standard Duramate configuration. The pick when you want the classic square shed at the lower price point.

The DuraPlus 8x8 is the reinforced tier. Includes reinforced construction features for higher snow and wind load tolerance, plus a side window for daylight. Same vinyl quality as the Duramate but with the upgrade features. The pick when you live in a high-wind or heavy-snow region, or when you want the window for daytime visibility.

64 sq ft of floor space is the threshold where a shed becomes useful for workshop applications. Comfortable workbench across the back wall (8 ft of bench), tool storage along one side wall, and floor space for a project, riding mower, motorcycle, or a 4-5 bike rack. This is also the smallest practical size for the finished she shed or man cave conversion after install - 64 sq ft is enough for a small reading nook with chair plus table plus shelving, or a budget art studio.

Installation takes 5-7 hours for two people. Most buyers DIY in a weekend. Permits: at 64 sq ft, the 8x8 falls well under typical 120 sq ft no-permit thresholds in most municipalities. Confirm with your local building department and HOA.

If you need more space, look at 10x8 sheds (4 model options at the next size up). If you need less, the 7x7 sheds are the next smaller option.

Other sizes

Smaller or larger square footprints.

Step up to 10x8 width or down to 7x7.

Classic Duramate or reinforced DuraPlus?

Live in a high-wind or heavy-snow region? The DuraPlus is the safer pick. Mild climate? The Duramate delivers the same vinyl quality at a lower price.
