Questions about the 10x21 vinyl garage.
Vehicle fit, permits, foundation, installation.
What vehicles fit in the 10x21?
Full-size sedans (Camry, Accord, Maxima, Tesla Model 3), SUVs from compact through mid-size (CR-V, RAV4, Highlander, Pilot, Telluride), and crew cab full-size pickups (F-150 SuperCrew, Ram 1500 Crew Cab, Silverado Crew Cab) all fit with comfortable walk-around space. The 10x21 is the safe default for most residential vehicles.
Do I need a permit?
Yes. At ~215 sq ft, this size always exceeds municipal no-permit thresholds. Permitting is the customer's responsibility per our policy. Start the permit conversation with your local building department before ordering.
What foundation do I need?
A 4-inch concrete slab with rebar, sized to the building footprint with a small overhang allowance, is the recommended foundation. The included foundation kit provides the anchoring framework. A pressure-treated wood platform over compacted gravel is also acceptable.
How long does installation take?
2-3 days for two people with basic tools. Hiring a local handyman or contractor typically runs $1,200-$2,000. Installation manuals are on our manuals page.
Can I run electric to it?
Yes. The kit is not pre-wired, but the structure is designed to accommodate residential electrical service. Hire a licensed electrician to run a dedicated circuit from the main panel via underground conduit. Typical residential electrical for a building this size runs $1,500-$3,500.
What is included in the kit?
Vinyl panel system, reinforced galvanized steel framework, integrated steel-anchored foundation kit, double front doors with secure latching, side-wall windows, and all assembly hardware. You provide the slab (or pressure-treated wood platform), labor or installer, and any optional add-ons like shelving or electrical.
What is the warranty?
DuraMax's 15-year limited manufacturer warranty on vinyl panels, structural framing, doors, and included hardware. Non-transferable. Full coverage details and exclusions on our warranty page.
About the DuraMax 10x21 Vinyl Garage
The DuraMax 10.5 ft x 20.5 ft vinyl garage (SKU 15226) is the most popular size in DuraMax's vinyl garage lineup, and for good reason. At ~215 square feet and 20.5 ft of interior length, it hits the standard 1-car garage dimension that fits virtually any residential vehicle with comfortable walk-around space at the front and back. This is the safe default if you are not sure which size to pick.
The 10x21 fits full-size sedans like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Maxima, or Tesla Model 3 with 3-4 ft of walk-around space. SUVs ranging from compact (Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4) up through mid-size (Highlander, Pilot, Telluride) all fit comfortably. Full-size pickups are where the 10x21 starts to be most useful: a Ford F-150 SuperCrew (about 19 ft long), Ram 1500 Crew Cab, or Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab will go in with about 18-24 inches of front clearance, which is enough to walk around the front of the truck and open doors fully.
Beyond just a vehicle, the 10x21's extra length compared to the 10x18 leaves room for storage and light workshop use along the back wall. A typical setup: vehicle parked in the front 17-18 ft of the building, with a 2-3 ft workbench, shelving, or storage zone across the back. This is the configuration that makes the 10x21 most popular - it accommodates the everyday car owner who also wants a place to keep yard tools, bikes, holiday decorations, and a small workspace.
What you get in the kit: a complete UV-stabilized vinyl panel system over a reinforced galvanized steel framework, an integrated steel-anchored foundation kit, the double front doors with secure latching, side-wall windows for daylight, and all assembly hardware. You provide the slab (4 inches of concrete with rebar to the building's footprint plus a small perimeter allowance) or a pressure-treated wood platform over compacted gravel.
Installation takes 2-3 days for two people with basic tools. Hiring a local handyman or contractor typically runs $1,200-$2,000 for this size. Installation manuals are on our manuals page.
Permits: at ~215 sq ft, this size always exceeds municipal no-permit thresholds. Plan to file with your local building department before ordering. See our permits policy.
If your vehicle is larger than typical, or you want more than minor workshop space at the back, the 10x25 vinyl garage adds 5 ft of length and is the right move for extended-cab trucks or buyers wanting a proper workshop bay. If 20.5 ft is more than you need, the 10x18 is the next size down.
Compare with adjacent lengths.
